The Grand Strumstick by McNally Strumsticks was designed to be a second
Strumstick in a different pitch range, with a different sonority. The Grand
plays the same way as the Standard, but is piched lower. The Standard is high
and bright, and distinctly cheery, while the Grand is darker, and moodier,
and a little bit richer sounding. It is 33 inches long, 5 wide, and 1 deep.
The woods are Padouk for the neck and body, Spruce for the soundboard, and
Maple for the back.
The tuning is D A D, with the high D being the same note as the middle string
of the basic Strumstick. The Low D is the same note as a guitar 4th string.
It can also be tuned C G C (key of C) and E A E (key of A). The frets are
placed to give a diatonic scale, with an additional flatted seventh. Pitch
range is 2 1/2 octaves. The primary key is D (also see Alternate Tunings in
the Players Area). The Grand Strumstick comes with a Free instruction book
and instruction CD. Case available (see Accessories). The Grand Strumstick
comes with the inlay Rosette (at no additional cost. There are currently 4
different designs:

McNally designed the Strumstick to be the ideal beginning
instrument for
people who feel they are completely unmusical.
If that describes you, you're in the right place.
(ps: musicians like the Strumstick, too)
Tthe Strumstick is for people who don't play any music, and are sure they can't play any music. There are no wrong notes; there are just the notes of a simple scale. ANYTHING YOU PLAY ON IT SOUNDS GOOD. Since there are no wrong notes, there are no mistakes; you can have fun making sounds without worrying about "getting it right". ITS EASY!
To begin, you squeeze the bottom string with one finger, and strum all three strings with a pick. Anywhere you hold the bottom string sounds good, and the other two strings make a background chord automatically!
The Strumstick is an ideal instrument for children to start on. Ages 3-5, some adult supervision and guidance recommended. Ages 6-96 a child-like spirit is useful but not mandatory.
We get lots of comments about how easy it is, and how much fun people are having. Full instructions and songs are included, and an instruction tape. We also provide links to instructions and songs online.
The Basic Strumstick is make of Padouk, Spruce, and Maple, is about 29" long, 4" wide, and weighs about 11 oz.
