James Trussart SteelPhonic Guitar - Designed to capture the ringing,
metallic tones of classic resonator guitars, the Steelphonic's sound is
built around a metal "candy box" attached to a transducer pickup.
This unique flavor can be blended with the sound of the guitars' two magnetic
pickups, creating an array of pleasing sounds no other guitar can produce.
A true stereo instrument, the Steelphonic accepts one OR two mono cables.

ABOUT THE JAMES TRUSSART STEELPHONIC GUITAR
As you probably already know, the Steelphonic contains an internal resonator
which is attached to a transducer pickup. This resonator produces a "metallic"
signal which can be blended with any of the guitar's magnetic pickups to
achieve a variety of sounds. This transducer is located under the bridge
and works much like your common piezoelectric pickup except that it has
none of the compression normally associated with these pickups.
It may take some time to learn how all of these components work together, but once understood it is really quite simple to operate. First of all you will notice that your guitar has two output jacks. This is to allow for operation in 'true' stereo. When only one cable is connected to the bottom-most jack, the output of the magnetic pickups and the electrostatic transducer (the pickup under the bridge) is combined into one signal. You can control the amount of either source in the signal via a 'blend' knob, which is the knob closest to the output jack, and the 'volume' knob, the one closest to the bridge, will determine the overall volume of that signal. With the blend control in it's middle position you will hear the magnetic pickups and the transducer simultaneously. Turning the knob back, or 'down', will increase the percentage of transducer in the signal, and 'up' will increase the amount of the magnetics. All the way in either direction will give you ONLY the tranducer or the magnetics, and the volume will be determined by the volume knob. Make sense?
With TWO cables inserted the story changes a little. In this mode the signal from the bottom jack is ONLY the transducer and it's volume is determined by the 'blend' control. The upper jack is the output of the magnetic pickups and the volume is adjusted with the 'volume' knob. In this mode, which we'll refer to as 'stereo', you can think of these two knobs as individual volume controls. Each signal is sent to a different amplifier (or two channels of the same amp, in some cases) and the volume of each signal is controlled independantly of the other. Keep in mind that in the 'stereo' mode the signal from the magnetic pickups bypasses the internal electronics entirely, giving you the purest sound possible.
There are two controls that work the same way in stereo AND mono, and these are your usual electric guitar functions. The first one is the 'toggle switch', which determines which magnetic pickups are 'on'. Up is the neck pickup only. Down is the bridge pickup only, and in the middle position you will hear both pickups. The second is the 'tone' control, which is the middle knob. It is a 'master' tone and will affect both the magnetics and the transducer equally.
One other thing to keep in mind is that your guitar is equipped with a 9 volt battery to power the internal electronics. As with other devices that utilise a battery, leaving a cord in the guitar (in this case the bottom jack) will drain the battery. Unplugging your guitar after use activates a battery 'turn-off' to prevent this from happening.
We hope this has helped you get a handle on what your guitar can do, and we wish you many years of enjoyment exploring the possibilities. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to answer them.
