Sound quality of ELIXIR Guitar Strings is rated by musicians,
as well as a sophisticated Dynamic Signal Analyzer (DSA). The DSA allows direct
measurement of frequency responses at all audible harmonics and overtones.
A custom, high speed Dynamic Mechanical Abrasion Tester is used to rate the
durability of the POLYWEB Coating. The abrasion tester simulates aggressive
play in the strum area with a heavy pick. String tension is adjusted to pitch
during evaluation.
Sophisticated high-speed photography has been used by Gore engineers and musicians
to better understand the vibration characteristics of a guitar string. The
photography was particularly useful in increasing durability of the POLYWEB
Coating.
